A breed without extremes, the Tonkinese has a great personality. The breed is renowned for their love of heights; it’s not unusual to find a Tonk swinging from a door or balancing on a kitchen worktop, but this only adds to their charm. Highly intelligent, they will not only have their paws into everything, be it a drawer or wardrobe and will have you eating out of their paws too! They also make great companions for children and, being very sociable, need the company of other felines if you are out at work all day. Breeders also recommend that Tonkinese cats are either kept indoors or only have access to the outdoors via an enclosure, as their remarkable temperament makes them very vulnerable and likely to go off with anyone.
Tonkinese are well-balanced cats with a soft and silky short coat, gently rounded head and large, expressive eyes.
