Wildcat with mountain hare
Wildcats like a mountain hare for breakfast!
It's been a busy but very exciting month here at the SWA so apologies for the gap in updates.

As always a continued huge thank you to you the readers and all the team at Your Cat as we've sailed on past £1000 and are on to donating wildcat funding to another wildlife park! We're now putting donations into a really nice little park in Scotland; Camperdown Wildlife Park in Dundee.

Camperdown has always found cash a little tight but they're great advocates of native wildlife and extremely keen to play their part saving the Scottish wildcat. In their own words their current wildcat enclosures are long overdue updating so we've all planned out some exciting improvements to the whole park and a brand new open-top enclosure for wildcats is top of the list.

We at the Association have already committed to help them along with the costs and now the Your Cat donations will also be going in so hopefully we end up with something really fantastic for wildcat kittens to grow up in before release back into the wild. There's an interview with the park and some photos of their cats in the next issue of the magazine!

Meanwhile, walkways are frantically being prepared at Wildwood and Port Lympne. Wildcat keeper Neville at Port Lympne has come up with a typically ambitious walkway design after getting a good deal on materials which has actually required the park to plant extra trees to accomodate it all!

Unfortunately all this means we won't have photos in time for the magazine deadline, but on the plus side your generosity has ensured that the wildcats are going to get a really good extension to their enclosure which will enable them to prowl around and glower at a whole lot more of the park and there are a mixture of private bits and public bits so the cats can have some quiet time alone if they fancy it. Photos in the issue after next I promise!

We've also had a great response to our call for volunteers and once again there's a few Your Cat readers to be found in there. We're just getting started on developing a full online shop on our website which will have mountains of wonderful wildcat things in it and a mixture of volunteers have been setting up social network profiles for us, so if you do hang out at places like Facebook or Twitter come and be a friend.

Finally, I got in contact with a very talented wildlife photographer recently, Chris Wallace, after discovering this amazing picture on the web and he very kindly offered to let us use it here and there on our websites, I think we may have to get a print version available too as I love it; one very happy wildcat after a successful day hunting! If you've ever seen a mountain hare at full sprint this should give you some idea of what talented predators wildcats are...
