National Microchipping Month
Written by Jason Hill

Charlie being chipped
Charlie was microchipped at six months old
Microchipping Month is coming to an end, but that's no reason to ignore this essential service that provides reassurance and assistance for lost and distressed pets. Has your pet been microchipped?

National Microchipping Month, organised by Petlog, was launched at Battersea Park in London at the beginning of June to remind the pet owning public just how good chips actually are.

Held annually, welfare groups all over the UK hold chipping clinics in a bid to make the public more aware of how a simple chip can be the difference between being reunited with your pet and never seeing them again.

It's such a simple procedure that provides a lifetime of cover and peace of mind. Having your pet microchipped gives you the security of knowing that if anything untoward does happen to them, you have the best possible chance of having them returned. We've heard some amazing stories of cats being returned after several years, only made possible through the chips.

Our house cat Charlie was microchipped when he was six months old, at the same time as being neutered, so if he is ever lost and taken to any vets his details will flash up on screen and we'll be notified. Thankfully this hasn't happened yet, but at least we are doing our bit to cover this eventuality!
