Cat backs winners

Betting OddsLynn Goring has discovered that her cat Jess has an unusual talent for putting her paw on the names of Derby winners.

Swimming teacher Lynn, 26, said: "At first I thought it was just a lucky coincidence but five wins in a row shows she must have some kind of gift." (Mirror)

Lynn, of Portsmouth, writes out the names on betting slips and her six-year-old tortoiseshell steps forward with her choices. Her cat Jess has so far earnt her a cool £166 in winnings.

She said: "It all started in 2003 when Jess walked across a load of betting slips and left her paw print on Kris Krin. I saw it as a sign and stuck my usual £5 each way on and he romped home at 6/1.

Her luck hasn't stretched to a seventh win, however, as she put £10 at 10-1 on Jess's 2008 tip, Tajaaweed, but it was the 6-1 shot New Approach that won the Epsom race.
