A specialist firefighting team was called into action after a cat fell down a 25ft crevasse in Mirfield, West Yorkshire."The cat had jumped or fell off a wall at the side of the river. It landed just at the side. It had been there all through the night and it was the next day when we were requested to attend. We couldn't see if it was injured but it was still alive said Watch manager Tim Jones. "We lowered a firefighter down the sheer drop using ropes and we had a cat box from the RSPCA. The firefighter picked the cat up, put it in the box and we pulled him back up." "The cat was very quiet. It didn't try to run away. It was a bit distressed so we handed it over to the RSPCA." (Dewsbury Reporter) Mr Jones said the team, one of only 20 in the country, was asked to rescue the cat because it had the equipment needed to do so. The cat was taken for treatment and is making a full recovery. |
