![]() Chocolate has sadly passed away "Chocolate has very recently passed away due to the tumour that was attached to his spleen. He was 19 when he died and has lived a long life where he has been loved and cared for constantly. We have many memories that will never be forgotten and although he is gone he will always be with us. He was put to sleep on June 1 and was taken home and buried in the back garden just where the sun hits the garden first, as he always used to sit outside in the sun and warm his bones. Now he can be in the sun all day. The vets gave us one month tops with him and that was in January 2009 so we have had an extra five months with him. We knew it was time for him to go because he didn't eat which is completely unlike him. He always ate. Then he couldn't stand very well and every time you had to pick him up or something he retched. Chocolate had been fine the previous day and had stayed out in the sun untill the ground began to cool then came in, ate, then snuggled into his basket and went to sleep, just like he always did. We knew that it wasn't fair to let him carry on like he was and if we had let him it would be unfair on him and it would just be for our sake. He has had a good life and always got fed when he wanted and got some brilliant treats, not to mention plenty of cuddles and was always spoilt. He was old so it was obvious that he wasn't going to last forever. We got him when he was around about twelve. He just turned up and we put up posters around the place but no-one claimed him so we kept him after a while. People always say that the cat chooses the owner but this time he did choose us. He slept in the front and back gardens at night and didn't leave so it was obvious that he had chosen us. Chocolate was a brilliant cat and at the age of 18 while being blind and deaf he found a way to get under our gate (something he'd never done in all the years we'd had him!) and walk up to the top of the street next to us meowing and walking around in a circle completely lost. A women called the number on the collar and my Mum went and collected him. It was great having him and he always gave us as much love as he could as we did to him. He is greatly missed but I know we did the best thing for him! I hope no-one has to go through what we have too soon and I hope everyone's cats live for a good age." Emily Tindall |
