| Crazy cat rescue |

![]() The Brooklyn Paper/Ben Muessig. A cat has been rescued from a space between two walls after his owner smashed through two neighbours flats. The cat, ironically named Rumi, became trapped in a small extractor shaft, after crawling into a hole behind his owner’s sink, in a flat in Brooklyn, New York. Chris Muth, Rumi’s owner, knew his cat had fallen into the ventilation shaft when he found a clump of hair over a hole in the floor and heard meows from the stranded cat. After smashing holes in his bathroom walls in an attempt to get to Rumi, Mr Muth gained the permission of his neighbours downstairs to smash some more holes in their walls. After both these attempts failed, Mr Muth resorted to desperate measures. Muth resorted to braking into another neighbour’s flat, barricading himself inside and begun smashing through their wall, this time without permission. Local police were called and Mr Muth was eventually talked out of the flat and sent to a local psychiatric ward. Rumi remained trapped for a further six days until Mr Muth was released. Finally after 15 days in a shoebox size hole, Rumi was tempted by some food set down by animal rescue experts and was caught in a sling. Rumi emerged from his ordeal filthy, bad tempered and suffering from a mild respiratory infection, but otherwise unharmed. Mr Muth has vowed to repair the damage caused but mentioned; “I can fix holes, but I can’t bring a cat back to life,” (The Brooklyn Paper). |
