Feet, shortlisted for Cat Award E-mail
feetHereford cat Feet, could be the Rescue Cat that gets the cream if he wins the Best Friends category title at the forthcoming Rescue Cat Awards 2008 ceremony on Friday August, 1, organised by Cats Protection.

The Awards celebrate the real-life tales of survival, bravery and heroism in the cat world. Feet is among four cats in the final of the Best Friends category, and should he win, he will be in with a chance of winning the overall Rescue Cat title!

Ten-year-old ginger cat Feet won his place as a finalist in the Rescue Cat Awards for his devotion not only to his owner Amanda Preece, but also her elderly former neighbour Margaret Went.

Amanda explains: “Feet would visit Margaret every day for the four years we lived next door. They became so close that when I moved home – 20 miles away – I couldn't bear to break up the friendship. So now every Thursday I drop Feet off at Margaret's house in the morning and collect him in the evening so they can spend the day together.

“Feet loves his visits to Margaret and the pair of them are very close. Not only are they great friends, but because of Feet, Margaret and I got to know each other and she is now one of my closest friends.”

According to Julie Sharp, the Awards’ organiser, Feet's story was an inspiring one. “It wasn’t an easy task for us to select just four finalists but Feet deserves his place in the final. It is truly touching to hear what a huge difference Feet has made to Margaret's life.”

The winning cat in the Best Friends category will be selected by cat-loving celebrity athlete Sally Gunnell.

Sally said: “I own three cats that had initially been found abandoned, and I feel lucky to have them because they have brought a lot of love, joy and comfort to myself and my family. I am looking forward to hearing more stories about how rescue cats have brightened up their owner's lives, and I hope the Rescue Cat Awards encourage more people to adopt rescue cats in the future.”
