Your Cat magazine readers will have enjoyed seeing Viviane Schwarz's knitted cat characters in the May issue. She created three characters — Moopie, Andre and Tiny — and they appear in her childrens' book 'There Are Cats in this Book'. If you'd like to make Tiny, their little red companion, here's the pattern.
"TINY” KNITTING PATTERN
Red wool DK weight White wool DK weight Dark blue or black wool DK weight Crochet hook for affixing the whiskers Two buttons for eyes Toy Stuffing 4mm needles Spring clip or spare needle.
Use stocking stitch throughout (alternating plain and purled rows).
BODY With red cast on 16 stitches Rows 1 to 6: red Rows 7 and 8: 5 red, 2 white, 2 red, 2 white, 5 red Rows 9 to 21: 5 red, 6 white, 5 red Row 22: red Row 23: 8 red, turn (reserve other 8 sstitches on spring clip), keep knitting on the 8 on your needle. Row 24 to 31: red Cast off Take up reseved stitches and finish as follows: Rows 23 to 31: red Cast off
Fold sides over (purled side on outside) and sew together (see illustration), leaving a hole in the back. Turn inside out and stuff, then close the seam.
ARMS (make two) With red cast on 7 stitches Knit 8 rows, cast off
Sew arms together, turn inside out and stuff. Sew onto body Embroider paws with white wool.
EARS (make two) With red cast on 6 stitches Knit 3 rows, cast off Sew onto head and shape by stitching down in the middle (see illustration).
TAIL Plait from red wool or make crochet loops. Sew on. Embroider face and sew on the button eyes. You can buy 'There Are Cats in this Book' in hardback for £9.49 from the Your Cat bookshop.
