Character cat Hugh is a huge inspiration to Simon

Hugh is Simon's main inspiration. "He's two and came from a friend's litter of kittens," says Simon. “He is such a rascal and was on my mind when I created 'Cat Man Do'. He had woken me up that morning and when I got into work I decided to turn it into an animation project. I didn't really think anything of it and had roughed it out within a week, but it seems to have really struck a chord with animal lovers. I wanted it to be something that I would want to watch and there's a lot of comedy with cats.”

In the first two days of being on the Internet, 'Cat Man Do', which sees 'Hugh' attempt to wake his owner by miaowing, kneading him with his paws, twanging his ear and finally hitting him over the head with a baseball bat, before pretending to have been curled up at the end of the bed all along, received 60,000 hits and nearly crashed the website's server. The film has since enjoyed considerable success on You Tube and has been viewed almost nine million times. Comments from viewers include: 'reality show', 'every morning - except I get headbutts to the face', and 'that's my cat!'

Simon says: “"The big response is very rewarding, I'm blown away. I’m amazed at the success; it's been quite a roller coaster ride. I’m so pleased that people understand me. It proves that what I am doing is spot on. My passion for cats has paid off. It just proves that you should stick to what you know. I know cats and I know animation."
