Help 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago
This saturday just gone we just got a new kitten. It was 7 months old and seemed really sociable while we were at the breeders.

It is an Asian kitty and since getting her home she as just cowered in it's pyramid bed.

I'm really worried as she as not eaten or drank. She just lies there miaowing if anyone as to go in the room.

We put her in our bathroom as that is the room that she darted for. We don't have a quiet room as we have a very busy household of kids and our family members dropping in during the day.

I think she as not done a wee or poop since coming to us. I have only ever had one other cat and that was a rescue cat (So never had a kitten).

Does anyone have any tips or ideas? I am so so worried

It is only two days, so I wouldn't worry. Strange house, strange people.
I've never had a young cat, but the other members will advise you.
A pity you don't have a quiet room. In the bathroom it will be a coming and going, I suppose.
Good luck.

Bonnie was very very timid when we got her would cower if we tried to stroke her she was a rescue and i suspect that she had been hit. I laid on the kitchen floor she would come up to me probably wondering what this mad women was doing!!! I could then stroke her she didnt see me as a threat then as i was more on her level. Might be worth a try. Could try putting a teddy in her bed with a watch or clock under it the ticking is like the kitten hearing its mums heartbeat. Hope everything works out ok.

Hi

The wee kitty will be missing her mummy and will be scared. When we first brought simba home he just wanted to hide and cried. He did eat straight away but perhaps it will take ure kitty a wee bit longer, i wouldnt want kitty going too long without food and water as when they are so young they need to keep hydrated etc. I did put a hot water bottle under simbas bed as the heat reminded him of his mummy. and as sandra said the clock is good idea also.

If the next day or so there is no change i would maybe just head to the vet to be on the safe side. and just make sure kitty is toileting ok etc. i hope things work out please let us all know how it goes xx

Poor little thing, must be a strange world for her.Good advice already given about getting down to her level, also don't look directly at her eyes as this is seen as threatening. She really does need one 'safe' room, and for everyone to leave her to come to them in her own time. Don't know about Asians, did the breeder not advise? Also get a good book (Your Cat Bookshop?). Mine was adult cat, spent a few days behind the settee, and I just talked to her softly and pretended not to see her when she peeped out. Always kept down on hands and knees to her level, so as not to look enormous and scary! Am sure others here will give good advice too..

Alot of good advice allready given. I would be tempted to have kitten in your bedroom with the door shut. Put a radio on with relaxing music and when ever you go in room don't seek kitty out but talk soothingly to her.

When I had my rescue Treacle she was terrified of me, I used to just sit on the floor near her and read a book or magazine for about 15mins. Have a few tasty titbits and put them near her. I also tried some toys later down the line but again I was sitting down. In time she got curious of me and let me stroke her. I never pushed it. It took me 6months to stroke here and a year before she trusted me. Then she was the most loving cat ever.

If your kitten still isn't eating today I would be tempted to get the vet to look at her. Could you ring the breeder up to ask for advice and ask what socialising she did with her.

Just an idea. Hope kitty gets better soon and do let us know how you get on,

Hannah.
