Having just had the April mag. reminded me, on home page here you will see an advice section on kittens. Might be worth a read. What is her name?

Hi,

There has already been a lot of good advice her already. Our cat Mo was 3yrs old when we got her (my avatar) and she's now 6.

When we got her to our house, she darted out the carrier and ran straight behind the couch. She was there was 3/4 days not going to the toilet or eating/drinking anything, even though we put food by the side of the couch. She eventually came out and took a few bites to eat, and when she was cowering in the back of the couch we went down to her level and spoke very softly to her. She did come out and we just ignored her, and let her get accustomed to us and the smells of the house.

She's still very timid at times (hates loud noises), but a very loving and happy cat.

It would be best to leave her in a bedroom probably your own would be better rather than the kids. Just put down a bowl of water and food and a tray for your cat and then just leave the room. I will take time, so you will need some patience with your new cat.

Keep us posted as to how you get on.

Although a lot younger, 7wks approx,Mika was the same, he was so small we had to creep around without shoes to try and find him, he was always under the smallest opening available, he would spit at us and his little claws would come out ready in defence. We did as other say on here, we went down to his level and waited, but to coax him out we put his food on a small saucer in the middle of the room. Eventually he would come.
Dont know if any help as Mika was kept alone in the bathroom with a surrogate mum right uptill the day we picked him up so we new he had no social skills.

i wouldnt worry to much, she will be getting use to her surroundings and new smells and environment! she will eat in her own time and is bound to be a little stressed.
we rescued mr diddles and he took a week to settle in with my other 7 but we got there in the end and he has made great progress
try to take her food to her and see if she will eat thats what i did will diddles and he ate no problems.
keep us posted how you get on!
