Smokey, the Guinness World Record holder for the loudest purr, was a true professional at her booksigning at Walkers bookshop, Stamford, Lincs at the weekend.

Joined by Your Cat's deputy editor Angie Kenny, volunteers from the local branch of Cats Protection, and owner Ruth Adams, Smokey just sat back and lapped up all the attention.

Cool as a cucumber Smokey hardly batted an eyelid as children, including two-year-old Arthur Parfitt from London, who was visiting with family, and adults alike lined up for a stroke. There's not many international celebrities that will let you do that! One Smokey fan also exclaimed: 'And she's much better looking than Victoria Beckham!'

A quick dive into her pen for a power nap then Smokey was back in action, grabbing a slice of ham at every available opportunity. Totally hammed out at one point, Smokey settled down for a snooze across her feature in the June issue of Your Cat magazine, and her incredibly loud purr became an incredibly loud snore!

Visitors were amazed how such a petite cat could make so much noise, reporting that they could hear Smokey from across the other side of the store.
