Furry feline friends fight loneliness this Cheer Up The Lonely Day
Today (July 11) marks Cheer Up the Lonely Day – an opportunity to bring a smile to the faces of those feeling isolated and alone. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home has a cattery currently full to cat-pacity of homeless felines in desperate need of a friend.
Many Battersea cats are looking for quiet homes, and would make lovely companions for single owners also on the lookout for a buddy. With the physical and mental benefits of having a pet well known, the question is, who needs who the most?
Six-year-old Charlie may not be a kitten any more but when offered a toy to play with he certainly acts like one. Charlie can be quite shy and noise sensitive though, so would purr-fer to find a home without children where he has the support of an owner who will build his confidence and help him live a stress-free life.
Spartie is a big boy with an even bigger personality. This four-year-old likes interaction on his own terms, but when the mood strikes him you won’t find a bigger lover of chin rubs. Having never lived with children before, a mature household with a settled routine would suit Spartie perfectly.
Black and white beauty Pookey simply adores having company and a comfortable lap to curl up on. However, Pookey is easily spooked and after a lot of upheaval in her life lacks the confidence of other cats. At 12 years of age she would appreciate nothing more than a quiet, settled home where she can build a bond with her new favourite person and retire in comfort.
Rosa Steele, Cattery Team Leader at Battersea’s London centre says, “While the staff and volunteers at Battersea work hard to give the cats love and attention during their time with us, we know all they really want is a home and companion of their very own. It’s always so nice to hear how much of a difference cats who have been in our care have made to their new owners’ lives, and we can’t wait to see Charlie, Spartie and Pookey do the same”.
