Lothian Cat Rescue is a NO-KILL shelter and registered charity which helps abandoned, ill-treated and unwanted cats & kittens. We successfully rehome around 1,000 cats and kittens each year and this is our main priority.

At any one time we have up to 100 cats at our shelter, staying in a variety of purpose-built accommodation and on our beautiful grounds. All our cats are neutered, microchipped and vaccinated prior to rehoming and all animals are health checked by our vet. Many cats require veterinary care and our costs are high – each year we spend more than £100,000 on food, litter and vets fees. We receive no external funding. Our main funds are raised from rehoming donations, public donations, our charity shop, our volunteer-run fundraising events and our supporter and sponsorship arrangements. In addition to our rehoming activities we try to make a positive difference to our local community by: - Reuniting owners and pets via our Facebook page and “lost and found” register - Working with land owners to manage feral colonies – cats are trapped and neutered, before being either returned to the ”colony” or rehomed from our shelter as “working cats” - Offering support with neutering costs for cat owners in need, via our neutering scheme - Promoting good cat ownership practices via our website and social media channels, and through visits to local community groups and schools There are sad stories involved in animal rescue. We want to ensure that as many as possible of our stories have happy endings, with our cats and kittens going to good permanent homes.
