In 1949, a Scottish seaman named Samuel Cox was reunited with his cat Emmy after she went missing from his ship, Empire Windrush, during a voyage from the Caribbean. The hilariously named feline, Dewey Readmore Books, was found in a library drop box in Iowa on a freezing night. The shop staff chose to adopt him leading Dewey to go on to charm visitors for 19 years and even inspire a best-selling book, and documentary.
