After a tough life on the streets, a 10-year-old cat that came into RSPCA care has landed on his paws - finding a new home at Lewisham Police station in south London.
Blake had been overlooked by potential adopters at the RSPCA Canterbury & District branch, until staff received an unusual request from Lewisham Police. They were looking for a street savvy cat who needed a second chance at life who in return would enjoy some time living in their stables.
Natalie Archer, manager at the branch said: “Blake came into our care at the end of April after being handed in to local vets. He had clearly been straying and fending for himself for a long time. He was in poor condition and had obviously been fighting - he had a large abscess and looked battered and bruised.
“Despite this he was friendly with staff. He was neutered in our care and treated for all his ailments - and thankfully he was soon fighting fit and ready for a home.”
When Inspector Steve Duffy from Lewisham Station reached out looking for a cat to join their team, Blake immediately came to mind.
Natalie said: “At ten years old, Blake is clearly streetwise and has been around the block. When I got the call from Inspector Duffy, he was the obvious choice.”
At their first meeting, Inspector Steve Duffy (right), who works in Mounted Branch, chose Blake to be based at the Lewisham police stables - and as an outdoor cat this suits the friendly feline perfectly.
He said: “Blake’s settling in really well and has already charmed everyone at the stables. The horses seem curious, but he’s still a little shy – his eyes were like saucers the first time he saw them! We’re letting him explore at his own pace.
“He’s a confident character and very friendly — he loves a fuss. We’re excited to have him around as he provides us all with a positive outlook.”
Blake now has his own barn as well as a couch in Inspector Duffy’s office. He has settled in brilliantly and is now a firm favourite with staff.
Natalie added: “We know this is just the beginning for Blake, and we can't wait to hear how he gets on!”
