As with humans, everything in moderation is key. Cheese can be fine for your cat, but in high quantities it can cause an upset stomach. Similarly, fruit is generally safe, although its high sugar content can also lead to digestive issues.

In addition to aforementioned trio, strawberries, bananas and raw chicken amass over 3,000 monthly searches.

“It’s clear that cat owners want to be extra cautious when it comes to their pets’ diets,” said Olivia Disley from Prestige Granite, who led the research. “Cats can be notoriously curious eaters, and many owners just want reassurance before letting their furry friends try something new.”

There are a few surprises on the list, including bananas in fifth place and rice in eleventh, both of which can be safe options when fed appropriately.

The research was conducted by Prestige Granite, a leading supplier of quartz and granite in the North West, operating within a 50-mile radius of Liverpool.
